Local Study Mission

The DTI-Siquijor Provincial Office, in coordination with the province's Small and Medium Enterprise Council (SMEDC) and Provincial Government, has planned a study mission for February 7 and 8, 2006. Seven local manufacturers/processors, five private-sector members of the Provincial SMEDC, and two personnel representing the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Siquijor will visit successful small and medium enterprises in Cebu.

During the mission participants will visit successful industries in order to adopt their strategies and observe their manufacturing processes and principles, including modern technology and machineries. This mission aims to enhance the development of several business sectors of Siquijor.

One purpose of the study mission is for local businesses to acquire first-hand knowledge and exposure to successful subcontracting arrangements and business networking relationships. In this manner, Siquijor businesses hope to establish linkages with similar manufacturers and exporters in hopes that they may negotiate subcontracts or joint ventures.

Manufacturers/processors attending the study mission include CJP Furniture, Pajermo Furniture, Duran's Banana Chips, Renie's Peanut Processing, Ever's Specialties, the KAPANIG Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC), and the LICOAN Rural Improvement Club (RIC). The five private sector representatives include Judy U. Booc, SMEDC Chairman; Pacifico Suan, Agriculture sector; Virgilio Masayon, Bakers' Association; Procielco, Services sector; and Nestor Rubio, Association of Farmer Scientists of Siquijor. In addition, two representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of Siquijor will also attend.
