Training on Customer Service Excellence
On Dec. 21, 2005, the Training on Customer Service Excellence was held at La Costa Cafe in Sandugan, Larena, Siquijor. The event was organized by the Siquijor Provincial Office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of Siquijor, the Provincial Small- and Medium-Enterprise Development (SMED) Council of Siquijor, and the Provincial Government of the province.
Mr. Anthony "Tong" Derecho, consultant of Leaders' Link Training and Consulting Center in Cebu City, facilitated the training. Participants of the event included representatives from Local Government Units (LGUs), private corporations, and restaurant and resort managers. Government employees as well as private proprietors attended the event because customer service is important in the public sector just as in the private.
The event sought to make participants aware of the needs of customers, participants' commitment to service with both internal and external customers, and to improve service proficiency. Participants enjoyed a very interactive training, which they hope to use in the workplace. Participants worked in small groups to discuss their likes and dislikes as customers, situations in which they had accepted personal responsibility for customer service issues, and to share the importance of a good self-concept in serving customers. Participants also played interactive games and watched informative videos to reinforce training concepts.
Small and medium enterprises in Siquijor seek to share their good business practices with each other in order to improve customer service. Participants recognize that the island of Siquijor competes with other popular tourist destinations for tourists; they acknowledge that if they improve customer service together as a whole that the island will benefit.
